The World Today

If you know someone

Who is living

In a different place

Than the place you are today

Open your eyes

Open you heart

And listen

To what they have to say

They see the pain

They see the war

They see the hurt

We feel each day

What can we do

But vote

And fight

And eventually pray

To believe

There is hope

In the world

Either way

They see we

The U.S. struggle

With decisions

We make

Everyday

But hope that we

Can find a way

Can find away

To believe in what we say

All we have

Is our hope

And the love

That which we pray

For

All who need

And want

The help of the USA

Hope Endures

A bitter taste

Destroying beauty

People that kill

People who die

Children who wake

From gunshots outside

Families afraid to

Send their children to school

Blood soaked clothing

Of mothers whose

Sons have died in their arms

Guns in the hands

Of the innocent and nefarious

Bombs dropped

Bloodshed in the name of God

Wars for power, land, oil, greed

Mother’s without children

Babies without families

Nations without trust

Humans without Love

***

Hope endures faintly

Tears

With the tears of joy
Her eyes sting pleasantly
Overwhelmed by
The birth of a child
A beautiful poem
A great work of art
People loving one another

With tears of pain
Her eyes burn in anguish
Overcome with sadness
The death of children
The hate in the world
Cities burning to the ground
Aspirations fading

With tears of hope
Her eyes embrace the pain
Trusting the world will recover
And love will flourish
